Protecting Institutional Data on a Global Campus
When: April 9, 11:45am – 12:30pm
Where: Plaza Exhibit/Foyer
Academic institutions today are challenged with protecting institutional assets while also supporting the flexibility that their end users require. Faculty and students use multiple devices to access those assets on a global scale. This expanded use means that today there is nearly 5 times more data on endpoint devices than on Exchange servers in datacenters. Institutions are experiencing a drastic increase in device theft and higher education CIOs report that one of their top concerns is the theft or loss of devices containing confidential data. How do we support the access and collaboration academic users require while ensuring institutions maintain control of their data?
The framework for data protection has to change in order to address the challenges institutions face. Druva, a data protection leader, will facilitate a discussion around using the cloud to ensure that institutional assets are protected while also enabling data access visibility for IT to demonstrate that critical research and regulated data is secure. Data can be made available in different ways to meet unique educational demands, such as the collaborative needs of researchers. Participants will also discuss the challenges that mobility and BYOD place on data protection and how to solve them.
